Upper Mustang is one of the most unique territories in the Himalaya: a desert plateau shielded by the Annapurna range, made up of canyons, eroded rock walls, ancient fortified villages and Buddhist monasteries, where Tibetan culture is still deeply present. For centuries the Kingdom of Lo remained almost isolated from the rest of Nepal, and even today access for foreigners is regulated by a special permit. We recommend exploring Upper Mustang by jeep. The road lets you cross the entire region at a slow pace, from Kagbeni all the way to the walled city of Lo Manthang, stopping in villages and points of interest without having to devote most of the trip to the long walking stages of a traditional trek.In 12 days, we reach Syangboche and Charang before entering Lo Manthang, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Mustang. Here we spend a day exploring the city and its surroundings, reaching the Chhoser caves, ancient monasteries and the village of Kimaling by jeep. The trip then continues toward Muktinath and Jomsom, before heading back to Pokhara. You don’t need to be an experienced trekker: the main travel is done by private jeep, and the visits only require short walks. Still, this is a genuine Himalayan journey, on mountain roads that are often unpaved and rough, with overnight stays at altitudes of nearly 4,000 meters.You’ll be accompanied by certified local Nepali guides who know the region and its culture inside out. The construction of the road has profoundly changed the way people cross this region, and many stretches of the old walking trail now run close to the track used by vehicles. That’s why we’ve chosen to use the available time to explore more places, villages and cultural landmarks of Mustang, rather than walking the same road for days on end. We travel in a private six-seat jeep, crossing the desert landscape of the Upper Mustang gradually and stopping along the way. Kagbeni marks the entrance to the restricted region; further north we reach Syangboche, Charang and finally Lo Manthang, the walled city that was once the capital of the Kingdom of Lo. In Lo Manthang, we don’t just make a brief stop. We dedicate a full day to the city and its surroundings, visiting the caves carved into the cliffs of Chhoser, the ancient monasteries and the villages of the valley. It’s here, above all, that Mustang reveals its true character: not just a spectacular landscape, but a Himalayan region with a history, architecture and traditions deeply tied to Tibet. The return journey follows a different route altogether, passing through Muktinath and Jomsom before reaching Pokhara. Upper Mustang Jeep Tour Itinerary<\/h2><\/div>

Our Upper Mustang Jeep Tour runs for 12 days starting from arrival in Kathmandu. After reaching Pokhara and Jomsom, we enter the Restricted Area from Kagbeni and drive up by jeep through Syangboche and Charang to Lo Manthang. We spend a full day exploring Mustang’s historic capital, the caves of Chhoser and the surrounding villages, before heading back through Muktinath and Jomsom and spending a day in Pokhara. <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
