Our mission
Himalaya Exped was born from a simple conviction: those who guide travelers in the mountains, make the toughest decisions and take on the daily responsibility for their safety, deserve recognition and fair pay. That’s why our Nepalese guides aren’t simple contractors hired for a single trek — they’re at the heart of the project and every choice we make.
Our itineraries are born from their experience too. On the Annapurna, we don’t stop at Thorong La Pass: from Tilicho Lake to small villages like Lupra, we try to lead our travelers to discover the most authentic Nepal. On Manaslu, we leave the main route to push toward the border with Tibet. And in the Everest region, instead of simply offering the classic Three Passes trek, we’ve built a true Grand Tour that reaches all the way to the foot of Ama Dablam.
Safety starts even before departure, by choosing the right season. We don’t run treks in Nepal in August: it’s monsoon season, and we don’t think it’s acceptable to expose our clients, guides, porters and the people working along the route to unnecessary risks just to fit the mountain into a holiday calendar. We’d rather lose a client than organize a trip at the wrong time: traveling also means accepting that every place has its own season, and that not everything can be done on our own schedule. Anyone who doesn’t share this principle probably doesn’t share our way of traveling either.
But truly knowing the Himalaya also means stepping into the culture of the communities who live there. Whenever we can, we choose small family-run lodges and guest houses, pass through villages home to the valley’s different minorities, and seek out places that often stay off the beaten tourist path. In Manang, for example, we climb up to Praken Gompa, the small Buddhist hermitage above the village where, for generations, travelers have received a blessing before facing Thorung La Pass.
Even the simplest choices matter. Every morning we provide two liters of drinking water to each participant, because at high altitude proper hydration comes before the chance to profit from bottled water. In the Everest region, we also bring our groups to learn about Sagarmatha Next, and we invite everyone who travels with us to support their work in keeping the Khumbu valleys clean.
For us, responsible tourism isn’t a slogan: it’s about choosing how to build an itinerary, who to work with, where to stay, when to go, and sometimes, even deciding not to go.
